Password Security Guidelines

Strong passwords are one of the most important defenses against unauthorized access.

Create Strong Passwords

  • Use at least 12 characters.
  • Include uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
  • Avoid using names, birthdays, or common words.

Use Unique Passwords

  • Never reuse the same password across multiple accounts.
  • Each account should have its own unique password.

Use a Password Manager

  • Password managers help generate and securely store strong passwords.
  • Avoid storing passwords in documents or spreadsheets.

Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

  • MFA adds an additional layer of protection.
  • Even if a password is compromised, MFA helps prevent unauthorized access.

Change Compromised Passwords Immediately

  • If you suspect a password has been exposed, change it immediately.
  • Report security concerns to your IT provider.
